Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it is an island west of Montreal however it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine as well as West. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was short. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height resulted in her outgrowing the dancers she was with. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I surpassed any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. The teacher recommended that she try out for a school production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both large and small. One of the most memorable was when she landed Rita's role in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character the character of Rita on The Handmaid's tale, a series that was produced over the course of ten years.
